Abstract: In this text, we are going to study and analyse the correspondent sent by Viera y Clavijo to his friend Fernando de la Guerra, Marquis of San Andres, between 1770 and 1792. These letters allow us to go into detail about the writer's privacy, his perception of the Court, of the Canary Islands, of Europe, and of the sociocultural situation at that time. Moreover, they are a precious evidence to know the dialectics between the public and the private spheres of one of the most representative writers of the Enlightenment in the Canary Islands.
