Organización cognitivia del significado en el discurso político: metáforas y metonimias temporales en el espacio lingüístico canario

Abstract

En este trabajo pretendemos analizar la diferencia horaria entre la Península Ibérica y las Islas Canarias a partir de tres modelos cognitivos idealizados propuestos originalmente por Lakoff (1987). Expondremos cómo el modelo conceptual del tiempo puede ser sofisticado inconscientemente a fin de respaldar un ideal político. Se tratade ver, en términos de cognición situada, cómo afecta el entorno sociocultural canario, enraizado conceptualmente en los procesos de organización cognitiva del significado del tiempo, al funcionamiento real sociopolítico en las Islas. El caso que investigamos es el siguiente: a partir de la diferencia de una hora entre la Península y las Comunidad Autónoma de Canarias, el candidato socialista a la Presidencia del Gobierno regional en las Elecciones de 2007 arma un discurso en el que, con lenguaje relativo al tiempo, se construye un significado nuevo referido a la realidad social del archipiélago canario. La mayor parte de los trabajos realizados hasta el momento en esta línea se refieren a la conceptualización del tiempo en lengua inglesa. Nosotros exploramos este concepto tal y como se estructura cognitivamente en lengua española.

In this paper, we intend to analyse the time difference between Mainland Spain andthe Canary Islands in the light of three idealized cognitive models proposed originallyby Lakoff (1987). We will explain how the conceptual model of time can besophisticated unconsciously with the aim of supporting a political initiative. We willexamine, in terms of situatued cognition, how the Canarian socio-cultural setting,conceptually grounded in the meaning construction processes, affects the realorganisation in the Islands. The case we study is the following. We start from the basis that there is a one-hourtime different between the Spanish Mainland territory and the community of the CanaryIslands. In the Regional Elections to the Presidency of the Canarian Goverment, thecandidate elaborates a speech in which, with language relative to the domain oftemporality, constructs a meaning which refers to the social reality of the Canarianarchipelago. To date, most works on this issue deal with the construal of time inEnglish. We will explore the way this concept is cognitively structured in the Spanishlanguage.
