Acerca de las columnas egipcias descritas por Calíxeno de Rodas: carta del humanista Pedro de Valencia al pintor Pablo de Céspedes

Abstract

En estas notas se pretende contextualizar la discusión filológico-artística plasmada en la correspondencia habida entre el humanista Pedro de Valencia y el pintor Pablo de Céspedes, destacando no solo la labor traductora del zafrense sino también el interés del pintor por el antiguo Egipto. Nos centraremos en la carta fechada en Zafra (Badajoz) a 22 de Enero de 1605 (número 58 del Inventario general del Archivo de la Catedral de Granada).

In this essay we intend to provide an appropriate framework to contextualize the correspondence between the Spanish humanist Pedro de Valencia and the painter Pablo de Céspedes; we will try to bring into sharp focus both Pedro de Valencia's work of translation and the painter's interest for the ancient Egypt. A particular letter included in their correspondence, dated January the 22nd, 1605 (number 58, General Inventory Archive, Granada Cathedral), will be used as our key document of reference.
