Abstract: The framework of complexity isa most appropriate one to understand the Anthropocene concept. After some general consideratins on the role of man as a vector for landscape and climate changes, the main features of complex systems are identified in the relationship between man and nature, yielding a thorough justification via vomplexity theory for the introduction of an Anthropocene baseline in the geological registers.
