Dakar: puerto de guerra y de comercio durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, 1914-1918

Abstract

This article analyzes the role of the port of Dakar (Senegal) as a coaling station during the First World War. It will be explored the coaling agreements signed between France and Great Britain. In addition, it studies the port modernisation process during the war and the socio-economic consequences caused by the conflict in West Africa due to the maritime freight crisis and the consolidation of extroverted economic structures.

Este artículo analiza el papel del puerto de Dakar (Senegal) como base carbonera regional durante la Primera Guerra Mundial. En este trabajo se analizan los acuerdos diplomáticos entre Francia y Gran Bretaña sobre el suministro de carbón en Dakar y la modernización de las infraestructuras portuarias. Finalmente, se exploran algunas consecuencias socioeconómicas de la guerra en África occidental motivadas por la crisis de los fletes marítimos y el mayor grado de extroversión de la economía regional
