Abstract: Regulación de Obras Marítimas (ROM) 5.1-13 is a national regulation where water quality normative in harbour areas is collected. It is a methodological procedure for harbour water environmental arrangement, which is used as a common statute between different administrations. In this study case, the first phase of the regulation is applied to Puerto del Rosario harbour in Fuerteventura, with the aim of getting the water renovation rate. MIKE 3D numerical modelling software has been used for the study of the hydrodynamics in the harbour area. Tide and wind current data as well as bathymetry data have been treated for the development of the software entry data. Water renovation rate in Puerto del Rosario has been obtained as the numerical modelling result. The results obtained revealed a high renovation rate by the regulation specifications. Although tide and wind currents help on water renovation rate improvement, port design is the main harbour water renovation rate improvement factor.
