One of the most interesting issues around the Canary emigration to America is the issue of the canaries that were installed in Louisiana. This territory was part of the Kingdom of Spain and required the presence of canary emigrants for its population and development. Carmen Laforet, the novelist born in Barcelona, but was raised and educated in the Canary Islands, traveled to the United States where coincides with the descendants of those canaries that arrived in Louisiana, they were called islanders. Their testimony is an important contribution to the study of that community canary that made history. |
