Resumen: Wireless data networks have advanced greatly in terms of technological maturity and market availability. The adoption of these networks is widespread around the world. International standardization committees, enterprises and scientific community are researching, among others issues, on providing Quality of Service (QoS),, higher transmission speeds, robust security mechanisms and integration of different wireless networks. However, most applications and protocols were designed for wired data networks and as a result, applications over wireless networks behave poorly due to the lack of corrective mechanisms that detect the varying channel and network conditions. Warning different layers and users to take appropriate action is specially critical for video streaming applications where a temporary disconnection of the client or the server causes losing of frames, bandwidth and battery wastage. In this paper we present a proactive mechanism that detects path breaks and reconnections between the video streaming server and the client. A solution at the application layer based on proxies that provides the corrective actions during disconnections and reconnections is also presented.
