Abstract: Aiming for a system that could control diverse kinds of industrial installations we have come to the one commented in this paper. We are facing a software solution that is capable of monitoring sensors over the Web, making a decision using a rule based system defined by the user and responding to it, by activating an actuator or sending an alarm message to a system's user. The user will be the one to define the rules that control the system by introducing new alarms that will monitor the plant's sate. Most industries are composed of several plants and need to be organized; the developed system coordinates the Data flow between them using two kinds of applications, one for the office and one for the plants. The system has been prepared to work in geographically disperse locations, it uses a TCP/IP connection to establish communication between all of its components, between sensors and the server, between the user and the server, between mobile phones and the server, etc. The system is built on Java Enterprise Edition 5, an industry standard platform for multi-tier, distributed, fault-tolerant software development.
