Objective We retrospectively analyzed 74,493 deliveries in the Hospital Universitario Materno-infantil de Canarias in the previous 10 years. Delivery route and perinatal results were studied. To analyze the deliveries in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit of the Hospital Universitario Materno-Infantil de Canarias (Spain) from 1992 to 2002. Material and method A total of 74,493 deliveries were analyzed. The deliveries were classified according to route. The following parameters were analyzed to evaluate perinatal results: 5-minute APGAR score, neonatal pH, admission to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and mortality rate in neonates weighing more than 1,000 g. Results Deliveries were normal in 73%, forceps were required in 13.4%, and cesarean section was performed in 11.8%. APGAR scores at 5 minutes of less than 7 were found in 1%. A pH of less than 7 was found in 1.1%. Admission to the NICU was required in 1%. The neonatal mortality rate was 6.5‰.
