Abstract: Molar excess volumes of several methyl esters (from ethanoate to tetradecanoate) with five odd n-alkanes (from pentane to tridecane) were determined at 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure from the experimental densities and correlated by a suitable equation. The results for VE are compared with those found in the literature and discussed in terms of the interactions between the groups intervening in the mixtures using the Flory and Nitta-Chao models. Only the Nitta-Chao model gives acceptable agreement with experiment when Ve > 0. © 1995, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
