Abstract: Excess thermodynamic functions HEm and VEm are reported in this paper for a set of 42 mixtures formed by six ethyl alkanoates (from ethanoate to heptanoate) and seven odd alkanes (from pentane to heptadecane). The HEm values were positive for all mixtures, increasing with the alkane chain-length and decreasing with the ester chain-length. The behaviour of VEm is analogous, with negative values in some mixtures containing pentane. The theoretical estimation of the excess properties considered are also analysed using several models. © 1997 Academic Press Limited.
