Issue Date: | 2009 | Publisher: | Elsevier | Journal: | New Technologies in Aquaculture: Improving Production Efficiency, Quality and Environmental Management | Abstract: | Marine fish larvae fed microdiets have not, at this stage, matched the growth and survival performances demonstrated by larvae fed live feeds such as rotifers and Artemia. This chapter discusses the issues related to the use of microdiets as a sole or partial feed for marine fish larvae. The techniques and methods of manufacturing microdiet particles, chemical and physical properties and the relationship to the ingestion and digestion are described. The chapter also looks at the physiological development and the nutritional requirements of larvae. Advances in feeding regimes such as co-feeding and feeding systems are also reviewed. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/51872 | ISBN: | 9781845693848 | DOI: | 10.1533/9781845696474.3.315 | Source: | New Technologies in Aquaculture: Improving Production Efficiency, Quality and Environmental Management [ISBN 9781845693848], p. 315-369 |
