The distribution of these parameters and analysis of the corresponding T/S diagrams, indicate a clear influence on the islands of the upwelling water from the African coast which, during the period studied, easily reaches the easternmost islands. Around the islands, the upwelled water can extend from the surface to the bottom or to the maximum depth indicated (150 m). On the other hand, there is a notable tendency towards emergence of the subsurface water. The nutrient values are seen to be governed by local productive processes.en_US
