Abstract: Densities, kinematic and dynamic viscosities, excess molar volumes, and viscosity deviations of binary mixtures of a methyl ester (pentanoate, hexanoate, or heptanoate) and an alkane (octane, decane, or dodecane) were determined at (283.15, 293.15, 303.15, and 313.15) K and atmospheric pressure for the whole compostion range. Excess molar volumes were compared to those predicted by the group-contribution model of Nitta et al. employing three different parameter sets available in the literature. The best predictions were obtained using the primary parameter set. The experimental kinematic viscosities were used to test the group-contribution models UNIVAC and UNIFAC−VISCO, and the best predictions were obtained by means of the UNIFAC−VISCO model. Also, several empirical and semiempirical relationships were employed to correlate the composition−viscosity data.
