Using ICT to motivate students in a heterogeneous programming group

Abstract

ICT has the potential to enhance and transform higher education in many ways and it's seen as important tool to enable and support the move from traditional 'teacher-centric' teaching styles to more 'learner-centric' methods. In this article, we describe and analyze one curricular experiment in the use of ICT in a programming course of an engineering degree. In this course, our students form part of a heterogeneous group with different programming skills. We have checked that the use ICTs in our programming course, increases students' motivation and the examination pass rates.
