Abstract: A new and fast method for the determination of priority phenols in marine sediment samples by high-performance liquidchromatography using microwave-assisted micellar extraction isoptimized. This study is carried out using the nonionic surfactantspolyoxyethylene 9 lauryl ether (polidocanol) and genapol X-080 asextractants. Parameters studied include surfactant concentration, solution pH, extraction time, and power. Once the method isoptimized, it is applied to different spiked marine sediments from ofthe Canary Islands coastlines (Spain). The results obtained indicatethat a power irradiation of 500 W for 2 min achieved the bestextraction efficiency (~ 100% recovery) and less than 10% relativestandard deviation. Detection limits are obtained in the 2–20 μg/grangefor the phenols studied. Finally, the proposed method providesa simple, fast, and organic solvent-free procedure to analyze phenols from marine sediment samples.
