Estudio del complejo de enfermedades respiratorias porcinas en una raza en peligro de extinción: el cerdo negro canario

Abstract

El Cerdo Negro Canario (CNC) es la única raza porcina autóctona en Canarias, descrita por García y Capote en 1982. Son animales rústicos, bien adaptados al medioambiente y al clima de las islas. Se cree que deriva de otras poblaciones porcinas, dando origen a un grupo multirracial diferenciado de gran valor genético mundial, medioambiental y sociocultural. Actualmente está incluida en el Catálogo oficial de las Razas de Ganado de España (Real Decreto 1682/1997), como Raza Autóctona en Peligro de Extinción. En este contexto, para preservar el estándar racial, se ha creado un Libro Genealógico, conjuntamente con un Programa de conservación para su selección.

The Canary Black Pig (CBP) is the only native pig breed in the Canary Islands, described by Garcia and Capote in 1982. They are rustic animals, well adapted to the environment and climate of the Islands. It is believed that derives from other pig populations, giving rise to a multiracial group of great importance within the world´s genetic heritage, environmental and socio-cultural value. It is currently included in the Official Catalog of the Livestock Breeds of Spain, as Specially-Protected Local Breed Endangered (RD 1682/1997). For preserve the racial standard, a Studbook and active conservation programme of the breed was created.
