Comercio canario-americano a fines del Antiguo Régimen

Abstract

El reglamento del 12 de octubre de 1778, orientado en favor del librecambismo había supuesto la apertura al comercio de muchos puertos de España y de América, con el fin del monopolio gaditano, acompañado de una serie de reformas impositivas. En Canarias asistimos a un nuevo equilibrio de fuerzas en la estructura comercial y en los intercambios. A lo largo de todo el Antiguo Régimen Canarias fue un punto de referencia en los intercambios entre ambos continentes. Desde los momentos iniciales se alza como escala obligada de las embarcaciones que cubrían la travesía oceánica, primeramente, sólo como lugar de avituallamiento y, seguidamente se inicia una fluida relación comercial entre Canarias y América.

It is a study on the merchandise trade relationship between the Canarian Island and the Spanish-America colonies at the end of the Ancient Regime (1778-1831). Such period correspond to the bill of the Free Commerce Law and approval of the Constitutional Regime of the Spanish Monachy. The author concludes it is possible demostrates that Cuba and Venezuela were the preferred final destination of the merchandise traffic, from the Canarian Island, and it is still the same on present days.
