Biometría de los peces pelágicos en aguas de Gran Canaria

Abstract

Se estudiaron 2784 ejemplares de peces pelágicos capturados en los alrededores de Arguineguín, Gran Canaria, durante el periodo comprendido entre febrero 2005 y enero 2006. Los distintos peces pelágicos fueron Scomber japonicus (Caballa), Trachurus picturatus (Chicharro), Sardinella aurita (Alacha) y la Sardina pilchardus (Sardina). Las tallas de Caballa oscilaron entre 8 y 40.2 cm de longitud total. El periodo reproductor se situó entre enero y febrero. Para el Chicharro, las tallas oscilaron entre 8 y 30 cm de longitud total. El periodo reproductor se situó en los meses de invierno, principalmente en el mes de marzo. La longitud total de la alacha oscila entre 6 y 31 cm. La alacha mostró pequeñas variaciones en el índice gonadosomático (IGS). Por otro lado la sardina, osciló entre 8.5 y 20.5 cm. Observamos un número bajo de ejemplares de sardina durante ciclo anual estudiado.

The present paper discussed the biometrics of small pelagic fish caught off the south-west coast of Gran Canaria from February 2005 to January 2006. The different pelagic fish were Scomber japonicus (chub mackerel), Trachurus picturatus (blue jack mackerel), Sardinella aurita (round sardinella) and the Sardina pilchardus (Sardine). The size range of the chub mackerel was 8-40.2 cm total length. The reproductive period extended from January to February. For the blue jack mackerel the size ranged from 8 to 30 cm total length. The reproductive period extended trough the winter months, mainly during march. The total length of the round sardinella ranged from 6 to 31 cm. The round sardinella showed small variability in the gonadosomatic index (IGS). On the other hand, the size range of the sardine was 8.5-20.5 cm total length. A low number of Sardina pilchardus was observed during the annual cycle studied.
