Dos desconocidos reglamentos de archivos nobiliarios del siglo XVIII

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es dar a conocer unas fuentes documentales, hasta ahora inéditas, como son las «instrucciones», ordenanzas o reglamentos de Archivos dictados en 1773 por dos nobles españoles, los duques de Medinaceli y de Santisteban del Puerto, respectivamente. Metodológicamente se han diseccionado ambos reglamentos, tanto particular como conjuntamente en un análisis vertical y transversal, descubriéndose interesantes analogías y diferencias entre ellos. De estas instrucciones archivísticas se desprende no solo lo arcano, recóndito, reservado, inaccesible, secreto, confidencial, etc. que eran los Archivos, en general, durante el Antiguo Régimen, sino también interesantes aspectos sobre los distintos sistemas de organizar y describir los documentos por parte de la nobleza en aquel tiempo, unos más eficaces que otros. The aim of this study is to present some documentary sources, hitherto unpublished, on the “instructions”, ordinances or regulations of archives as announced in 1773 by two eighteenth-century Spanish nobles, the Dukes of Medinaceli and Santisteban del Puerto, respectively. Methodologically, both sets of regulations have been dissected individually as well as together in a vertical and transversal analysis, revealing interesting similarities and differences between them. These instructions on archival science unveil not only how arcane, hidden, inaccessible, secret, confidential, etc., that archives generally were during the Old Regime, but also interesting aspects about the different systems used to organize and describe the documents of the nobility at that time - some more effective than others.
