The penus Allagopappzrs belongs to the subtrihe Iizzrliizatí (lizula groiip, Compositae). It is endemic to the Canary Islands and consist of two species, A. viscosissimm Bolle (endemic of Gran Canaria) and A. dichotornus (L.) Cass. The latter species is more widely distributed than the former and has two subsgecies, latifolius (endemic of Gran Canaria) and dichotomzrs (predominating en Tenerife and the more westerly islands). The aerial parts of A. viscosissinzus yielded p-amirin acetate, sitosterol-p-n-glticoside, flavonoids and sesquiterpene lactones (germacranolides). The aerial parts of A. dichotomus ssp. Latifolizrs afforded p-amirin acetate, sitosterol P-D-glucosidc, stigmastcrol, thymol derivatives, flavonoids, sesquitei-pene lactones (germacranolides and one guayanolide). The aerial parts of A. dichotomz~sS S - . Diclzotomtw yielded, sitosterol-P-D-glvcvsid~, ~ i 1 i c 1 1 , vainillin, 4- formilbenzamide, scopoletin, thyinol derivatives, flavonoids and sesquiterpene lactones (gertnacraiiolides). The genus Vieraen (tribe Inuliime) is endemic to the Canary Islands and coinprisc a single species, J! l~zevigafcr (Br ~11433. ex WiZZq Webb which upon investigation has been shown to produce thymol derivatives.en_US
