Foro Canarias objetivo turismo sostenible: ¿diálogo revulsivo o hito acumulativo?

Abstract

¿Puede Canarias transformar su modelo turístico en un modelo económico, social y ambientalmente sostenible?El Foro Canarias Objetivo Turismo Sostenible se enfrenta a esta cuestión alineada al debate sobre el marco de lasostenibilidad, con requerimientos como la cualificación y la innovación.Esta comunicación reflexiona acerca de la evolución del concepto de sostenibilidad y su reflejo en las diferentespolíticas públicas, el escenario actual y la orientación que deben tomar los futuros espacios de intercambio haciala evaluación de los avances y las decisiones que deben afrontarse para lograr los objetivos marcados en unescenario de emergencia climática.En esta línea, la contribución queda soportada en tres bloques: (1) una revisión breve sobre la conceptualizaciónde la sostenibilidad y el turismo sostenible; (2) una exploración del marco legislativo y los instrumentos que hanorientado el modelo turístico regional hacia la sostenibilidad; (3) la revisión de algunos indicadores clave en latransformación del concepto de sostenibilidad y, consecuentemente, del modelo turístico

Is there any chance for the Canary Islands to shift its tourism model towards an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable one? The Foro Canarias Objetivo Turismo Sostenible faces this issue committed within the framework of the sustainability debate, focusing on requirements such as qualification and innovation.

This communication invites to a more detailed thinking about the evolution of sustainability and its reflection in the different public policies, the current scenario, and the direction that the upcoming forum must achieve in order to ensure the targets set out at this time of climatic urgency.

In this regard, the contribution relies on three segments: (1) a brief review of the approach of sustainability and sustainable tourism; (2) a look into the legislative framework and the legal acts that have guided the regional tourism model towards sustainability; (3) the review of some relevant indicators in the transformation of the sustainability concept and, consequently, of the tourism model.
