This preliminary study focuses on Mallorca and Gran Canaria, two islands with World Heritage-listed cultural landscapes: the Serra de Tramuntana (Mallorca) and Risco Caído, and the Sacred Mountain Spaces of Gran Canaria. It explores how recent tourism dynamics have affected their management and sustainability. The main objective is to analyze the transformations in tourism dynamics from the perspective of key stakeholders in the region, considering the challenges and opportunities that arise for the conservation of these cultural landscapes in a context of tourism reactivation. To this end, statistical data contextualizing tourism trends on both islands were collected and analyzed. These data served as the basis for the design and development of in-depth interviews with stakeholders. The responses obtained were analyzed using qualitative thematic coding to identify patterns, discourses, and strategies related to tourism and heritage management in times of crisis. Although this work is in a preliminary phase, the results are anticipated to shed light on the interaction between tourism and heritage on islands, highlighting tensions between sustainability, tourism development, and heritage valorization. Preliminary findings point to the importance of strengthening local governance strategies and fostering active community engagement to mitigate the impacts of post-COVID tourism on these cultural landscapes. | URI: | https://accedacris.ulpgc.es/jspui/handle/10553/165037 | ISBN: | 978-84-9127-349-3 | DOI: | 10.17398/3101-7177.1.2 | Source: | XXIX Congreso de la Asociación Española de Geografía: "Desafíos de la Geografía ante el Cambio Global",15-17 octubre 2025, Cáceres / Ana Nieto Masot, Gema Cárdenas Alonso, Angela Engelmo Moriche (Eds.), [ISBN 978-84-9127-349-3], p. 1087-1092 |
