Imaginando el desaparecido Archivo del marquesado de Ayamonte 500 años después

Abstract

El marquesado de Ayamonte, enclavado en el rincón peninsular onubense limítrofe con Portugal, conformó desde fines de la Edad Media un importante Archivo señorial que, por entronque familiar, se agregó en el siglo xviii al de la Casa de Astorga-Altamira. Sin embargo, como consecuencia especialmente de las circunstancias vividas por sus nobles propietarios, especialmente durante el siglo xix, la documentación de este gran Archivo se encuentra hoy muy dispersa y parcialmente perdida. De ahí que nos hayamos propuesto con este trabajo reconstruir lo que debió ser aquel Archivo andaluz utilizando, en parte, para ello el método analógico y comparativo de investigación con otros archivos señoriales de las mismas características y propietarios.

The marquisate of Ayamonte, situated to the west of Huelva by the border with Portugal, configured from the end of the Middle Ages a remarkable archive collection that was later incorporated into the Archives of the House of Astorga-Altamira through family ties during the 18th century. The documents that once formed part of the archive now find themselves partially lost and scattered because of the vicissitudes experienced by this noble family during the 19th century. This paper aims to reconstruct the Archives of the Marquises of Ayamonte by making use of analogies and comparisons with other historical archives owned by the same noble family and showing a similar organisation.
