In this study, some pairs of consecutive satellite images from the Advance Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) with a time separation of 24 hours are used in order to derive the sea surface flow velocities in the Northwest African upwelling area. The method used is the Maximum Cross Correlation Method (MCC), and it consists in locate the maxima of bidimensional cross correlations between consecutive images. The maxima represent the movement of the observed features. The results are analyzed and discussed.
