| dc.description.abstract | Introduction Tracheostomy (TQT) is a procedure that maintains airway patency, and its effectiveness depends on the selection of appropriate equipment and specialized care. Knowledge gained during nursing and postgraduate training is essential to ensure safety and minimize risks in these patients. Identify the level of knowledge regarding TQT care among nurses at a hospital in the Canary Islands (Spain). Methodology A cross-sectional study was conducted. The study population consisted of nurses from the hospital in the Canary Islands. The data collection instrument used was a self-completion questionnaire with 32 variables. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee 2023-502-1 and the Health Center Management. Results The sample consisted of 38 participants (7.16%), which was not considered representative of the study population. The mean age was 39 years, with a predominance of women (81.58%), and a mean work experience of 15 years. 34.22% felt uncomfortable receiving care, and 47.37% sought help from colleagues. Critical issues, such as pre-feeding measures and decannulation practices, continue to create uncertainty among participants. Discussion/Conclusion The findings are consistent with those reported in the scientific literature, where the level of knowledge regarding TQT care is generally described as moderate. The active involvement of healthcare institutions in continuous training is essential as a key strategy to improve staff knowledge and core competencies. In this regard, the implementation of interactive educational methodologies supported by technological tools—such as simulations and virtual reality games—may be an effective approach to optimizing both learning and clinical practice. | - |
