Abstract: This paper presents a people counting system that utilizes video cameras for the automation of surveillance tasks in various environments like buildings, highways, and parking areas. The system employs digital image processing techniques, including the analysis of both visible and infrared spectrum images, to effectively count individuals as they cross designated entry points. The study discusses the effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and challenges of implementing such systems in different lighting conditions and environments.
