The Atlantic harlequin shrimp Gnathophylleptum tellei d'Udekem d'Acoz, 2001 (Decapoda, Palaemonidae) in the Canary Islands: biological and d local distribution

Abstract

In the present study, the Atlantic or Telle's harlequin shrimp, Gnathophylleptum tellei d'Udekem d'Acoz, 2001 (Palaemonidae), is shown to be a dietary echinoderm specialist, feeding on the tube feet of sea stars, sea cucumbers and possibly also small sea urchins. Some preliminary observations on the ecology and general biology of the species are provided. All previous records of G. tellei in the Canary Islands are briefly reviewed and at least 30 new sightings made between June 2005 and April 2024 are added
