Entre el conflicto y el olvido: España en el contexto internacional del franquismo

Abstract

La guerra civil española está considerada por los historiado- res, como la primera guerra moderna del siglo XX y la precursora de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Además de este sobrenombre, esta guerra fratricida trajo tres años de crímenes, barbarie y violaciones indiscrimi- nadas de Derechos Humanos contra gran parte de la población española ya que, los que no eran víctimas de asesinatos, lo eran del hambre y la miseria. En la presente contribución, contemplaremos que, en España, pese a textos tan importantes como la Declaración Universal de Dere- chos Humanos de 1948, o el Pacto Internacional de los Derechos Civi- les y Políticos de 1966, tales derechos fueron continuamente vilipen- diados, sin que la comunidad internacional apenas se moviese un ápice. Y es que, pese a los execrables hechos que acontecieron durante la gue- rra civil y la posterior dictadura, la ayuda de la Comunidad internacio- nal fue prácticamente nula. Sin apoyo exterior que liberase a España del yugo de la dictadura, los cuarenta años que perduró el régimen, han sido sin duda una de las épocas más oscuras que se recuerdan en la historia de España.

The Spanish Civil War is considered by historians to be the first modern war of the 20th century and the precursor of the Second World War. In addition to this nickname, this fratricidal war brought three years of crimes, barbarism and indiscriminate violations of hu- man rights against a large part of the Spanish population, since those who were not victims of murder were victims of hunger and misery. In this contribution, we will see that, in Spain, despite such important texts as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948, or the Interna- tional Covenant on Civil and Political Rights of 1966, these rights were continually vilified, without the international community making the slightest move. And despite the execrable events that took place during the civil war and the subsequent dictatorship, aid from the international community was practically non-existent. Without outside support to free Spain from the yoke of the dictatorship, the forty years that the regime lasted was undoubtedly one of the darkest periods in Spain's history in living memory.
