Estudio histórico-jurídico institucional de la Capitanía General de Canarias (1700-1833)

Abstract

En la presente investigación analizamos la evolución institucional político-administrativa de la Capitanía General de Canarias en la Edad Moderna. Profundizamos en la centuria del setecientos ya que el jefe militar, gobernador y presidente de la Real Audiencia de las islas alcanza su cenit institucional. Este alto grado de concentración de poderes se verá modificado en el devenir del siglo XIX, pues en este período observamos la figura jurídica del comandante general recorriendo esta centuria con continuos avances y retrocesos en su ámbito competencial. En definitiva, este proceso de mutación va dirigido hacia la configuración exclusivamente castrense de la Capitanía General tal y como hoy la conocemos.

This study delves into the political-administrative institutional evolution of the General Captaincy of the Canary Islands throughout the Modern Age. Its role in the 18th century, where it attained its institutional peak, was that of military leader, governor, and president of the Royal Audience of the islands. This high degree of concentration of power was altered throughout the course of the 19th century, since the powers of the commanding general underwent continuous advances and setbacks. In short, the mutations undergone by the General Captaincy form part of the course of what is today an exclusive military role.
