Abstract

La principal renta real de la corona de Castilla que se explotó en Canarias en la primera mitad del s. XVII fue el almojarifazgo, impuesto aduanero que durante los reinados de Felipe III y Felipe IV, y desde finales del s. XV, gravó la importación y exportación de mercancías y géneros de todo tipo en el archipiélago. Estuvo en manos de judeoconversos portugueses y hombres de negocio que se sintieron atraídos por las ventajas que reportaba su titularidad en el comercio de ida y retorno con las Indias. El presente trabajo señala quiénes lo explotaron, cuál fue su precio y los hechos más notables en su gestión

The main source of revenue for the Crown of Castile, the almojarifazgo, was exploited in the Canary Islands in the first half of the 17th century. As a custom duty levied since the end of the 15th century on the import and export of goods and commodities of all types in the archipelago, during the reigns of Phillip III and Phillip IV. The almojarifazgo was mainly in the hands of Portuguese judeoconverts and businessmen who were attracted by the advantages of ownership in the back-and-forth trade with the Indies. This paper explores who exploited it, its price and the most remarkable facts related to its management.
