Abstract: The linguistic reality of São Tomé (and, to less extent, of Príncipe) is that of a small island territory in which communities coexist that, except for literate, do not share a language: the Angolars, the Tongas, the Cape Verdean community (with its insular variety of Cape Verdean Creole) and the forros (the community that speaks the Portuguese-based Sao Tome Creole), in addition to the bilingual and monolingual communities that speak a Sao Tome Portuguese not accepted as standard Portuguese
