dc.description.abstract | Throughout history women have had to fight to achieve their goals. Roles determine the spaces and tasks that each gender must develop within a certain social group. Both men and women have been marked by gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes are beliefs about the characteristics associated with women and men that maintain gender discrimination. In the digital age, gender stereotypes are highly visible, a consequence of the supremacy of the male gender over the female. The STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) represents one of the great challenges for women as students and as professionals. The STEM gap is present in our society because women have been discriminated against in access to certain scientific careers. This educational modality or branch should be covered at all educational levels from childhood, even if they are not dedicated to a professional level. Today, women continue to challenge the impediments that perpetuate their undervaluation, underrepresentation, and even invisibility in the STEM field. The acceleration of technological advances in society increasingly requires professionals in the areas of technology, science or mathematics. In this work we address gender roles, stereotypes and inequalities, we analyze the presence of women in STEM studies as well as incentive programs for girls and women at the request of different entities and organizations. | en_US |
