Roupa para dormir? A camisa em Portugal entre os finais da Idade Média e inícios da Época Moderna

Abstract

Este artigo explora as características e os contextos de utilização da camisa em Portugal entre os finais do século XIV e inícios do século XVI. Discute-se a utilização da camisa enquanto roupa de dormir e exploram-se as suas relações com o corpo e a nudez. Analisam-se também os formatos e os materiais, de acordo com os diferentes estatutos sociais de quem as vestia e na relação com o contexto social português da época.

This article explores the characteristics and contexts for use of the shirt in Portugal between the end of the 14th century and beginnings of the 15th century. The shirt’s use as nightwear is discussed, as well as its relationship with the body and nudity. Formats and materials for the shirt are also analysed through the lens of the different social statuses of the wearers, and with regard to the more general social context of Portugal and the Portuguese at that time.
