Iglesia y educación. La ración de Gramática de la Catedral de Canarias

Abstract

Desde 1563 hasta la fecha de la muerte del último racionero en 1851, existió en la Catedral de Canarias una prebenda a cargo de la educación de los niños. De hecho, se puede decir que la Ración de Gramática fue el único centro de enseñanza secundaria que hubo en las Islas Canarias hasta que a principios del siglo XIX se creara el Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de La Laguna ( 1846 ), en la isla de Tenerife. En este artículo se examinará este estudio de gramática desde su sede hasta el salario del profesor, los estudiantes, los profesores, los derechos y deberes de los racioneros.
