| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Classical French object complement constructions experience a notable standardization to just one option in contemporary French. One example that illustrates this issue is the construction enseigner à inf/de inf, which has been reduced to enseigner à inf. Today, most of the alternative regimes that competed with one another in the 17th century are considered optional variants that are largely equivalent and do not lead to differing interpretations of the verbal expression. The lack of semantic differentiation and the fact that verbs tend to take the same preposition as others with the same meaning favours the reduction of competing models. | en_US |
