Abstract: Prometeo is an innovative online platform at the Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC, Spain) that combines multimedia content with digital mediated learning. A team of computer specialists works on the audiovisual production, programming systems and graphic design in order to help teachers create multimedia material for their students. As a Virtual Learning Platform (VLP), Prometeo allows ULPGC students to have access to different interactive activities, in class recorded lessons, content videos, screencasts and automatic evaluation systems that contribute to improve learners' independent learning skills. Prometeo, on the other hand, is a stage that allows teachers to modify contents and control the activities completed by students. After its third year, Prometeo is a project in which more than 70 subjects have participated. "English Language" is a subject that has successfully improved learning abilities in its students by using Prometeo. This work will focus on its teaching methodology, the multimedia material created and the learning outcomes obtained after a year on Prometeo in order to answer the following question: Is ubiquitous learning the new media to reach distance and independent learning in language university students?
