Abstract: The objective of this study is to estimate the welfare of ferrets in the Canary Islands by analyzing their diet, accommodation, health and management. The ferret (Mustela furo) was domesticated 2000-3000 years ago to be used mainly in rabbit hunting, but is currently also used as a domestic animal. To assess the well-being of ferrets, we must take into account that the ferret is a strict carnivore, so its diet must have high percentages of animal protein, fat and low fiber. Also, they must be vaccinated against distemper and rabies, have adequate accommodation with sufficient environmental enrichment and be able to manifest their natural behaviors. A survey was conducted with 33 questions divided into 6 sections, mainly answered online but there were also physical surveys. A total of 91 answered surveys were obtained, but 8 were discarded, leaving a total of 83. Most of the ferrets in our study are fed with cat food. A certain number of them have accommodation with measures lower than those recommended and many of the ferrets are not vaccinated and carry out activities that put them at risk. They have positive behaviors like the docking and the weasel war dance.
