Title: Use of Alcaligenes faecalis A12C probiotic in the modulation of kidney damage during sepsis: experimental in vivo study

Abstract: Acute kidney injury (IKA) is one of the most important consequences produced by sepsis and it is related with an increase of mortality. The objective of our study is evaluate the possibility of kidney protection against sepsis by the administration of Alcaligenes faecalis A12C probiotic for thirty days. Furthermore, the safety of administration and a good intestinal colonization of the probiotic are evaluated in experimental rats. Others studies showed inhibitory effects in the growth of multi-resistant bacteria by the use of A12C. This study was done in thirty-six rats, which were divided in three different groups: A. faecalis A12C pretreated septic rats, non-pretreated septic animals and control group. Animals of both experimental groups were induced sepsis by cecal ligature and pucture model (CLP) and were euthanized twenty hours after CLP, together to control group animals. Wore clinical evolution and higher kidney damage were showed in non-pretreated rats, whereas good probiotic colonization of gut microbiota and consequently decreasing E.coli cfu were observed in pretreated animals. Our findings showed that use of Alcaligenes faecalis A12C is related with better forecast, so sepsis signs were more evident in nonpretreated animals.
