Las Canteras is an urban beach which is in accretion because of anthropogenic activities, which resulted in the modification of the natural sedimentary dynamics of the system. The massive construction on the Isthmus changed the aeolian dynamics and therefore sediment accumulates on the beach. In order to recover the previous equilibrium, two extractive operations have been conducted on the beach in 2003 and 2009. To analyze the coastline evolution, eighteen aerial photos covering the period 1940-2013 have been georreferenced. There is a similar time gap between them and all of them show similar spatial resolution. The coastline was digitised from these photographs. Las Canteras beach is not homogeneous at all, since the boundary conditions determine the existence of three sectors with different morphodynamic behavior. Therefore, results were analyzed separately for each sector. Furthermore, the time period has been divided in the pre/post extractions intervals (1940-2002 and 2002-2013 respectively). The most significant changes take place along the northern sector of the beach, since during the first interval the progradation rate was 0.71 m/year, whilst during the last decade it shows an average coastline retreat of 0.55 m/year.
