Cambios inducidos por actividades antrópicas en los procesos geomorfológicos eólicos de La Graciosa (islas Canarias). Una perspectiva histórica

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es caracterizar la relación entre los usos del suelo y la dinámica sedimentaria eólica en la isla menor de La Graciosa (islas Canarias) para el periodo comprendido entre la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII (cuando las fuentes históricas evidencian la presencia humana en la isla) y la actualidad. La metodología se sustenta en la interpretación de distintas fuentes (documentos históricos, fuentes estadísticas, fotografías aéreas, testimonios orales), que permiten caracterizar los cambios ocurridos en la isla, tanto en lo que se refiere a los usos del suelo, como a la geomorfología eólica. Los resultados evidencian la existencia de seis etapas, donde las variaciones de la intensidad de la presión humana sobre el medio han favorecido, en unos casos, la movilidad de los sedimentos y, en otros, su estabilización.

The objective of this paper is to characterize the relationship between the historical land uses developed on the island of La Graciosa (Canary Islands) and its aeolian sedimentary dynamics. The period between the second half of the eighteenth century, when historical sources confirm human presence on the island, and the present time, is analized. The methodology is based on the interpretation of different sources (historical documents, statistics, aerial photographs, oral testimonies) that allowed us to characterize the changes in the island during the period analyzed, both in terms of land use and aeolian geomorphology. The results suggest the existence of six stages, during which the intensity of human pressure on the environment changed. Therefore, the aeolian geomorphology has been altered, favoring the mobility or the stability of the aeolian sediments.
