Issue Date: | 2020 | Abstract: | Melanocytic tumours can be lethal and debilitating manifestations, or merely a benign lesion on the skin. Within the animal kingdom there are varying morphological manifestations of this disease, the most common species affected being the dog and the horse. This review goes in depth within the canine, feline, equine, ruminant and porcine species to further understand the biological behaviour of these tumours within each; based on their gross morphology, histological architecture, cytologic features and potential for malignancy. We take a deeper look into site predilection within each species, the most common areas reported being the skin, mouth and eyes. We also review the possible endogenous factors, such as genetic predispositions and cellular metabolism, and possible exogenous contributing factors, for instance, solar radiation | Department: | Departamento de Morfología | Faculty: | Facultad de Veterinaria | Degree: | Grado en Veterinaria | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/103571 |
