Descriptive study of the casuistry of the Tafira Wildlife Recovery Center and examples of clinical cases

Abstract

The centers of recovery of wild and autochthonous fauna have a great importance at national and international level to conserve and to preserve the ecosystems and the natural environment. Their work consists of the treatment, the rehabilitation and later liberation when possible, of the species entered there. For that is necessary to have knowledge on the species that arrive to elaborate the best plan of possible care. Most of the cases of entry are due to anthropogenic causes produced by human beings, such as interaction with fishing, electrocutions with cables, nonbiodegradable waste at sea, poaching ... this reveals the need to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of ecosystems, fauna and flora around us. In this study, firstly, a descriptive study of the casuistry from 2017 and 2018 of the Tafira Wildlife Recovery Centre was done. And secondly, three clinical cases from 2019 were selected and thin order to develop the cases reports. This study shows the amount of work that it is done at the recovery center that is essential for the balance of the environment in Gran Canaria.
