Abstract: The author discusses the reported effects of a 12-week exercise intervention using downhill skiing in elderly total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients with the use of a multidisciplinary approach that combines clinical, physiological and biomechanical assessments. Topics discussed include observed positive effects in glucose homeostatis even with significant changes in inflammatory biomarkers and plasma lipids and a positive muscle and tendon adaptations resulting from the intervention.
