Abstract: Despite the colon is not essential for nutrient absorption, it plays an important role in the fluid and electrolite balance in the body, which will be affected to a different extent after colectomy. The objectives of nutritional care in osteomized patients are to reduce fluid and electrolite losses, thus preventing dehydratation and hyponatremia, and on the other hand to reduce the total volume of faeces as well as increasing density and contributing to improve the quality of life of the patient. This paper describes main nutritional recommendations and dietary advice for osteomized patients.
