Historical, contemporary, ecological and biological aspects are described from the common angel shark Squatina squatina by means of bibliographic revision of the relevant literature, dating from Aristoteles up to the present, about the perception, use, abundance and conservation of the species. Information regarding several basic ecological and biological aspects of S. squatina in the island of Gran Canaria is provided. For this purpose (1) information of opportunistic sightments were requested from recreational divers. The validity and utility of the reports was verified taking into account limiting factors as errors and difficulties, both in design, analysis and interpretation of the data. Trending of sightments in relation with temperatura and location is provided. |
