Issue Date: | 2025 | Abstract: | Passive immunity, acquired through colostrum, is essential for neonatal health. This study evaluated the efficacy of the immunocrit method as a diagnostic tool for assessing passive transfer of immunity (PTI) in Majorera goat kids. The immunocrit, method, based on protein precipitation with ammonium sulphate, was compared to ELISA-derived IgG concentrations. Results showed a significant correlation between immunocrit ratios and IgG levels, with moderate diagnostic agreement, acceptable sensitivity and specificity, and clear practical advantages in terms of cost, speed, and simplicity at a immunocrit ratio cut-off value of 9.05. Although less precise than ELISA and lacking defined cut-off values for goats, the immunocrit may serve as a useful field tool for identifying kids at risk of PTI failure. Its integration into herd management could improve early intervention strategies, guide colostrum supplementation, and support breeding decisions aimed at enhancing neonatal survival and overall productivity. Further validation is recommended to optimize its diagnostic utility in caprine health programs. | Department: | Departamento de Patología Animal, Producción Animal, Bromatología y Tecnología de Los Alimentos | Faculty: | Facultad de Veterinaria | Degree: | Grado en Veterinaria | URI: | https://accedacris.ulpgc.es/handle/10553/140865 |
