El español de Canarias. Análisis empírico de las actitudes que adoptan los hablantes hacia esta variedad

Abstract

Este trabajo académico tiene como propósito analizar las actitudes que adoptan los hablantes canarios con respecto a su propia variedad y comprobar, de acuerdo con las propuestas teóricas y metodológicas de la sociolingüística, si la consideran una variedad de formalidad, de estatus y de prestigio (Almeida, 2012: 25). Con este objetivo, se hará una investigación empírica que consistirá en realizar a un grupo de informantes, organizados por género, edad y nivel de formación, una encuesta tras pedirles que escuchen dos grabaciones de audio: la primera, de un hablante del español septentrional; y la segunda, de un hablante del español de Canarias. Ambos del mismo género, y con igual nivel de formación y edad. De este modo, esperamos obtener información de las valoraciones positivas o negativas que hacen los participantes en la investigación, tanto hacia esta variedad dialectal y sus peculiaridades lingüísticas como hacia sus hablantes. Además, esperamos comprobar si se ha producido un cambio de actitud en la actualidad como se ha descrito en investigaciones anteriores. Por este motivo, pediremos información sobre la edad del informante en nuestra investigación empírica para poder determinar si realmente se está produciendo una revalorización de la variedad dialectal canaria, ya que, conforme indican algunos estudios del campo de la sociolingüística, las actitudes de los hablantes pueden verse influenciadas por variables como la edad, el género o el nivel de formación. Asimismo, esperamos poder analizar el grado de credibilidad y confianza que otorgan los informantes al español de Canarias.

The purpose of this academic work is to analyse the attitudes adopted by Canarian speakers with respect to their own variety and to study whether they consider it to be a variety of formality, status and prestige in accordance with the theoretical and methodological proposals of sociolinguistics (Almeida, 2012: 25). With this aim in mind, an empirical investigation will be carried out, consisting of a survey of speakers, organised by gender, age, and level of education, after asking them to listen to two audio recordings: the first, of a speaker of Northern Spanish; and the second, of a speaker of Canarian Spanish (both of the same gender, and with the same level of education and age). In this way, we hope to obtain information on the positive or negative evaluations made by the participants in the research, both towards this dialectal variety and its linguistic peculiarities, and towards its speakers. In addition, we hope to see whether there has been a change of attitude nowadays as described in previous research. For this reason, we will ask for information on the age of the informant in our empirical research in order to determine whether a revaluation of the Canarian dialectal variety is really taking place, since, as some studies in the field of sociolinguistics indicate, the attitudes of speakers may be influenced by variables such as age, gender or level of education. We also hope to be able to analyse the degree of credibility and trust that informants place in Canarian Spanish.
