Abstract: On the island of Gran Canaria, numerous cattle are slaughtered in order to offer the population products of animal origin. It is necessary that such products are of quality and free of pathologies and defects. In order to offer this to the consumer, the Insular Slaughterhouse of Gran Canaria has a system in which organs and carcasses are totally or partially discarded depending on what is displayed in the postmortem inspection. The present study seeks to analyze these condemnations recorded in the postmortem inspection in order to clarify what problems are commonly found in cattle. Thus, the data recorded in the slaughterhouse from January 2018 to December 2022 have been reviewed, obtaining that the main causes of seizure in cattle over 24 months were acute purulent mammitis, cachexia, pericarditis, cardiac contamination, steatosis, other cardiac and hepatic pathologies, pneumonia, nephritis, reticulitis and abscesses in other parts of the carcass and in cattle under 24 months being peritonitis, cachexia, pericarditis, cardiac and pulmonary contamination, other cardiac pathologies, liver abscesses, nephritis and reticulitis. It has also been seen that in cattle (regardless of age) the most confiscated organs have been kidneys, lungs and liver. The heart and other organs have accounted for a small percentage of seizures in this period.
